We are continuing our school finances discussion in order to give the public information in advance of the school budget votes on Tuesday, May 17.
This week superintendent Paula Hurley of Trumansburg Central Schools will describe the unusual situation her district is in. They have too much money and need to spend it down carefully. She will explain this problem and their resolution of it.
Superintendent Janie Nusser and business official Naomi Zuckerman of South Seneca Central Schools have the more usual problem of a massive cut in state aid and too small of a tax base to simply replace it with local money. Like other districts they will be dipping into their reserves to preserve the quality of their programs.
If you have questions for these officials, email email@example.com and I will read them on the air (if they are appropriate).
